Communicating Change
5/23/2008

Closing the perception gap with consumers remains one of General Motors’ greatest challenges. In this presentation, you'll see how the company recognized and admitted the obvious – while eliciting support from third parties.

You'll learn how GM battled misperceptions with truths in a friendly, firm and proactive way. And, as the company celebrates 100 years in the business, you'll discover the GM’s vision for the future and hear how it is communicating industry leadership in a new world marketplace.

GM’s John McDonald will also talk about the upcoming national PRSA conference being hosted October 25-28, 2008, in Detroit.

John McDonald has 30+ years of communications experience on both the client and agency side of the business. His current assignment is as GM’s communications manager for vehicle sales service and marketing. His background includes international hostage repatriation, plant openings, corporate bankruptcies and mergers. Prior to joining GM, he held internal and external positions with Fleishman-Hillard, and he spent 11 years in the airline business, including serving as spokesperson for Trans World Airlines during its bankruptcy organization and the crash of TWA Flight 800 in 1996.
