Local PR firms earn PRSA honors

Local PR Pros and Firms Earn Awards from PRSA East Central District

CLEVELAND, December 10, 2008 – Cleveland area public relations professionals and firms earned a total of 16 awards for excellence in public relations campaigns and tactics though the Public Relations Society of America’s East Central District Diamond Awards competition.

A total of 47 awards were issued in 15 categories ranging from community relations to brand management. The competition is open to any public relations professional, including members of the 15 chapters in the East Central District or any nonmember whose place of business is within the district boundaries of Michigan, Indiana, Ohio Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Kentucky.

Liggett Stashower won five Awards of Achievement, including one in the category for special events, “Duct Tape Festival: ‘X’ Marks the Spot for a Sticky Celebration.” Liggett Stashower also earned First Place awards for Brand Management with “Sticking to Brand Mantra Continues to Pay Off for Duck Tape” and Integrated Communications with “The Freshaire Choice Paint.”

Other winners included Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems with Marcus Thomas LLC, with a First Place in Business to Business Marketing for “Bendix ESP Electronic Stability Control is the Best Safety Solution.” Marcus Thomas and Bendix also teamed up to win an Award of Achievement in the Issue Management Category with “Bendix Posts Videos to YouTube to Better Educate Audiences About New Technology.”

For its work with the Ohio Aerospace Institute, Roop & Co. garnered a First Place for Brand Management with its “Accelerating Innovation Presentation.” Roop & Co. and B&F Capital Markets won an Award of Achievement in Business to Business Marketing Tactics for its “Opening New Doors” campaign. Roop & Co. also teamed up with RPM International, Inc. to earn a First Place award in Investor Relations Tactics with “Balanced to Grow,” the company’s annual report to shareholders. 

Also earning a first place award was Brush Wellman, Inc. with Axcept Media, with their efforts in Tactics in Institutional Relations and Public Service entry entitled: “Interactive Guide to Working Safely with Beryllium and Beryllium-containing Materials.” Eisen Management Group earned an Award of Achievement in Brand Management with client Planned Parenthood for its work on “The A Word.”

The competition was sponsored by Columbia Gas Transmission, and BrickStreet Mutual Insurance Company.

Chartered in 1947, the Public Relations Society of America is the world’s largest organization for public relations professionals.

PRSA’s nearly 20,000 members, organized into 117 chapters, represent business and industry, technology, counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional services firms and non-profit organizations. The Greater Cleveland Chapter of PRSA serves the needs of public relations professionals in Northeast Ohio. Affiliated with the East Central District of PRSA, the chapter consists of approximately 300 members.
